Museum Neighbors Situated on the same city block with Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Mia), MCAD has shared a long history with this beloved, encyclopedic museum dating back to 1915. All MCAD students are granted a free membership to Mia. Connected by an underground tunnel and part of the larger MCAD campus, students can take inspiration from the galleries and participate in classes within the exhibition hall. The connection between the two institutions is also reflected in Mia’s commitment to engaging and supporting emerging artists, many of them MCAD alumni. MCAD students receive discounts and free admission on Thursday evenings. Walker Art Center is also committed to showing and supporting emerging designers and artists, many of them MCAD alumni.
