TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP

I deeply enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for learning and self-discovery through a practice of making. Technical, social, compositional, and formal experiments in the studio lead to new understanding and questions. I am grateful to accompany students as they move through this process and offer my perspective and encouragement. Questions I find important to consider: How does it feel when you are making? Who interprets your work how? What is the significance of your materials? How do your materials connect to your concepts and forms or not? With whom do you want to share your work and why? What are your values? How do they shape your professional goals? Mentoring students is also an opportunity for me to reflect on my own practice, which I am happy to share too.
