BIO

Eli Brown is an interdisciplinary artist whose work in queer ecologies spans sculpture, social practice, zines and public art. Their projects draw from natural history, science fiction, agriculture, and trans theory. They are often speculating about interspecies relationships, collective survival, and pre and post-human reproduction. Eli’s work has been exhibited at the deCordova Museum & Sculpture Park Biennial, Flux Factory, and Creative Time X. Eli’s exhibitions and public projects have received press through Sculpture Magazine, CULTURED, Art New England, WGBH’s Open Studio, and Chronicle 5 News. Artist-in-Residency awards include MASS MoCA, The Luminary, Wassaic Project, Franconia Sculpture Park, and ACRE. Their writing and work have been published in Trans Studies Quarterly, Antennae: The Journal of Nature in Visual Culture, Routledge's Artists and The Practice of Agriculture, and the long-running, queer, sex-ed comic, Not Your Mother’s Meatloaf. Eli received an MFA from SMFA at Tufts in 2018. Since then, they have taught courses at Montserrat College of Art, Maine College of Art and Design, and UMass Lowell.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP

I have been teaching art at the college and graduate level for over five years. I believe strongly in the project of arts education and consider it an honor to facilitate and support the education of artists of any age. Teaching challenges and inspires my creative practice, and in turn, my practice informs my teaching. Transparency, humility, and commitment to equity are the qualities I strive to embody in my own teaching practice.
