Matthew Yaeger he/him/his matthewjyaeger@gmail.com https://matthewyaeger.com/ Drawing/Painting, Interdisciplinary In-person, Online, Hybrid mentor BIO I grew up in central Minnesota where I studied art and creative writing at Saint Cloud State University, later receiving my MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and returning to Minnesota where I now live in Minneapolis. Working in sculptural, and image-based forms, I imagine the body and objects in a viscous, liminal state. A fluid veil where physical experiences merge with the world of digital images and the screen. I cruise the digital lexicon of daily life and explore how it influence ideas about perception, memory, and our physical being. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP I believe the mentee-mentor relationship is a mutual experience of perspective and reflection where developing a personal voice and growth can be explored. Where is the work at, and what can help shape future direction? I encourage students to take risks, and be willing to fail. I believe working through these moments of uncertainty creates space for learning and discovery. In developing a practice and voice, how can individual interests be explored through materials, objects and actions? In turn, how does that research of making connect back to ideas, the world, and how the work is received.
