Art Educator Workshop: Experimental Drawing and Mixed Media (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Art Educator Workshop: Experimental Drawing and Mixed Media (in person)

This workshop is geared towards adventurous individuals eager to explore new creative terrain and the art educator who wants to expand the way they think about drawing.

Course description

Consider the criteria for successful experimental work and look at contemporary artists using experimental drawing as their primary artistic practice. Drawing is a mode of discovery and creativity. Experimentation will be key to exploring the parameters of drawing. Working from observation to the abstract, participants engage in a range of processes using traditional tools and materials in non-traditional ways. Use unconventional materials as a means to examine the possibilities of mark-making, space, and surfaces. Spontaneity and improvisation are emphasized as methods of exploration in the creation of mixed media drawings as well as ephemeral works; including collage, image transfer, artists’ books, monoprints, and more.

Emphasis is placed on examining the relationship between how drawings are made and what they potentially express. Class time will be split between presentations, dialogue and studio time. / This class has a one-hour lunch break each day. / Graduate credit is available. / Material fee of $25 included in course tuition. / We strongly encourage you to contact us and confirm your workshop has met minimum enrollment to run before making any travel arrangements.
