The Art of Storytelling: Comic Books for ages 6-9 (in person)

Featuring everything from cats in capes to space girls, and pandas with powers; comics allow a child's imagination to come to life in images and words. Learn how to turn ideas into characters, design worlds and how body language and expressions are used to tell a story. Open to ages 6–9.

Course description

Students use a variety of artist tools and materials to create personal comics while exploring drawing and painting techniques. Take a field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art for inspiration as well as to learn about influential comic artists such as George Herriman (Krazy Kat), Fujiko (Doraemon), and Luke Pearson (Hilda). At the end of the week, families and friends are invited to view the students’ cool and creative comics in a group exhibition.

Open to students ages 6–9. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2025. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camps Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration. Information about extended care options for ages 6-12 through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camps Policies page.
