Students create characters, set designs and stories as they learn how to use a variety of materials, clay, paper, everyday objects and their own body, to tell a story. Students are guided through the use of iPads and video editing software to produce animation shorts while exploring frame by frame techniques. Open to ages 9-12. Course descriptionStudents also learn about other techniques, such as animated cell painting and background design. A portion of each day the class explores the history of animation, learning about famous animators and meeting a working animator. The week will include a mini-field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Take inspiration from filmmaking and animation icons like Hayao Miyazaki, Lottie Reiniger, Tex Avery, Matt Groening, and Tim Burton. Family and friends are invited to enjoy the animations created by the students at a screening on Friday afternoon. Open to students ages 9-12.
