Explore an expanded definition of comic artists to include everything from Egyptian hieroglyphics, to pioneer cartoonist Will Eisner, to autobiographic graphic novelist Raina Telgemeier. Open to ages 9-12. Course descriptionDive into the process of creating comic books, from storytelling and character design to the cover art. Explore drawing techniques using a variety of artist tools and materials to create cartoon facial features, as well as characters in motion. Students create and print a collaborative zine, a small-scale, self-published publication, to get creative, share ideas, and have their voices heard. A visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Art for inspiration, as well as an exhibition to display everyone’s work for families and friends to admire completes the week. Students take home a copy of the collaborative comic book. Open to students ages 9–12. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2025.
