Introduction to Abstract Painting (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Introduction to Abstract Painting (in person)

Learn how to begin making abstract work and lean into developing an individualized, unique artistic style of painting and creating visual language.

Course description

Through exercises and demonstrations, connect with and create abstract work. Discuss the history of abstract painting and become familiar with some of the genre's most famous practitioners (de Kooning, Pollock, Motherwell, and Mitchell) to gain inspiration. During the critique process, questions such as, "How do we know it's finished?" and "How do we know it's good?" are considered within an experimental environment and where the focus is on the process, rather than the product. Lots of paint, lots of fun! / Materials fee of $12 is included in course tuition.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.
