Joy and Magic of Color (Painting and Mixed Media) for ages 9-12 (in person)

Color is a powerful and exciting way for artists to express themselves. Explore the basics of color theory and color mixing to create personally expressive artworks in acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Open to ages 9-12.

Course description

As a basis for their artwork, students explore personal interests, nature, and abstraction to utilize various concepts and techniques relating to color. Learn about the style and techniques of several artists in the Minneapolis Institute of Art collection, like Phyllis Wiener, Grace Hartigan and George Morrison, and view these artworks to discuss and learn about the power of color. At the end of the week, families and friends are invited to view the students’ work in a group exhibition.

Open to students ages 9–12. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2025. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camps Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration. Information about extended care options for ages 6-12 through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camps Policies page.
