Motion Graphics Fundamentals (online)

This course covers essential concepts and techniques in developing motion graphics for video applications and content creation.

Course description

There is magic in making your drawings move. Learn how to combine different techniques and methods to tell a story, communicate a concept, or embellish an image. Review professional practices in keyframing, animation, layer management, and motion design in industry standard applications. Students create individual, original works through a combination of quick exercises and in-depth projects. / Students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the course.

Open to students ages 16 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Class meeting details

The course will be a combination of synchronous meetings and asynchronous activities. Students meet together online for synchronous class meetings on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. CST, using Zoom for demonstrations, exercises and activities. Asynchronous activities may include readings, video demonstrations and tutorials, online discussions, projects, and critiques. The instructor will meet with students one-on-one, and will record class meetings for those who cannot attend the live sessions.

Prerequisites

Previous experience with Adobe AfterEffects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop are helpful, but not required. Example skills include opening and saving files, using menus, file types. Basic computer skills (file management, app installation) are required.

Required materials

Supplies
Pen or pencil, notebook or sketchbook, USB drive or cloud storage option for saving work.

Software
Adobe Creative Cloud (provided by MCAD).

Hardware
A computer capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud software, with internet access, a camera, and a microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work.

This class uses Adobe Creative Cloud and Canvas, MCAD’s learning management system. Please see the links for more information.

Class savings
