Picturing Picture Books (Children's Illustration Inspired Art) for ages 6-9 (in person)

Create illustrations to accompany favorite stories and find new ways of bringing stories to life through drawing, painting, and collage. Open to ages 6-9.

Course description

Learn about illustration styles used by authors and illustrators of iconic children's literature, including Leo Lionni. Find new ways of bringing stories to life. Take a field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art and explore an exciting array of picture books at the MCAD library to find dynamic and unique illustrations. Projects include creating both 2D and 3D forms using paint, watercolor, paper, collage materials, and oil pastels. The course concludes with a showcase of artwork for friends and family to admire.

Open to students ages 6–9. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2025.
