Printmaking Workshop: Botanical Monotypes (in person)

In this fun and exciting workshop, use plant materials as stencils to create stunning one-of-a-kind images.

Course description

Roll slabs of colorful ink onto plates, arrange plant materials, add damp paper and run it through the press to create dramatic monotype prints. Students may continue to add more materials to create layered prints or start fresh with a new monoprint. The results are surprising and unexpected, inspiring more ideas. Learn about mixing and rolling out inks, basic color theory, the concept of pochoir, or stencil, the flexibility of composition, and the strengths and uses of different papers. The process is fun for everyone from beginners to experienced artists. Students come away with a collection of beautiful botanical monotypes. / Materials fee of $23 and facility fees of $23 included in tuition. Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Class meeting details

This course meets in person on MCAD's campus. Students do not have access to the Printshop outside of class hours.

Prerequisites

Previous drawing experience is helpful, but not required.

Required materials

Supplies
Pen or pencil, notebook or sketchbook.

The materials fee and facility fee for this class will cover the required supplies.

What to wear
Clothes appropriate for messy creativity. An apron may be useful. Closed-toe shoes are required. Long hair should be tied back.
