Printmaking Workshop: Trace Monotypes (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Printmaking Workshop: Trace Monotypes (in person)

Trace monotype is all about exploring and celebrating the line. It's an ideal form for those interested in drawing or sketching, hand printing, or experimental calligraphy.

Course description

In trace monotypes, paper is placed lightly on a rolled-out slab of ink, and a design or image is drawn or traced onto it, then the paper is removed. The resulting image has a unique quality and dimension, with a line that is unusually rich and elegant. The plate itself can be run through the press to provide a negative of the original, which is as evocative and elegant as the original. Learn how to manipulate ink and how the characteristics of different papers affects the final print. Through demos and experimentation, make a small collection of elegant monotypes to take home. / Materials fee of $23 and facility fees of $23 included in tuition. Please review Printshop Facility Fees Supply List for more information.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.
