Visual branding is a critical area of competence for any designer, and a useful area of knowledge for entrepreneurs, marketers, and other professionals. Course descriptionLearn by creating a cohesive identity system for a fictional company. Create a logo, an identity system, including assets and mockups and an online and a professional social media presence. Through sketching the realization of ideas (using the Adobe Creative Cloud software) and structured critiques, explore conceptual literacy, unifying factors in systems design, and the golden rules of logo design to establish a personal visual brand. Individual outcomes may be largely driven by the time devoted to class outside of class hours. / Students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the course.Open to students ages 18 and above. Class meeting detailsThis online course is a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Students meet together online for synchronous class meetings on Mondays from 7:00–8:30 p.m. CST., using Google Meet for demonstrations, discussions, exercises, critique and opportunities for students to ask questions and share resources. Asynchronous course activities may include readings; video demonstrations and tutorials; online discussions; projects; and critiques. The course is project-based, with 2 to 3 deadlines per week. The instructor will have office hours throughout the course. PrerequisitesPrevious drawing experience is helpful, but not required. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop are required. Experience with layout and design, logo design, and basic web design are especially helpful.
