LOUD LIBRARY: FREE BOOKS, FREE MUSIC, FREE VIBES The Loud library is a community-driven idea to reconnect people with knowledge through books, good music, and create a community around them. I wanted to be able to help people reconnect with their love for reading books, listening to music, and having fun. Some people work so hard to get through life that they forget to read books or discover new music. People fall victim to their same old, and become stagnant in their choices of entertainment. I wanted the Loud Library to be brought out into the public so I could share this idea with more people. I first began by building the mobile bookshelf\DJ table. It was created from a dark wood bookshelf, a double supported cart, steel wheels, used books, a DJ turntable, a computer, a Jackery power bank, and a speaker. With this setting, I could be mobile and travel to different places to give away books and DJ from the same place. The Jackery power bank supplies power to my speaker, and the computer is powered by the DJ turntable. I chose a double supported cart to hold all the weight from a bookshelf. The steel wheels give me a more versatile surface to DJ and more places to give away books. I incorporated used books instead of new ones because some were donated to the library and used book bins, and I bought some from thrift stores and used books stores. The majority of the books were from thrift stores and this idea came from re-circulating the books into the community. These books were once seen as close to trash as they could have been. They may not have been “good” enough for one person but would be very valuable in someone else's eyes. Also, in this iteration of the project for my thesis show, I made rectangular boxes similar to the size of the regular books, and I printed a QR code on them. Through the QR code, the audience can access a shared folder on the cloud that contains scanned versions of banned books. The first public display of the Loud Library, when I brought it to Thomas beach, was a successful experience. People actively engaged with the work, and some even stopped to talk to me about a future donation to the idea. For the thesis exhibition, I will bring this idea into the exterior of the gallery space. I will use the former mailroom space in the MFA building to create a library that will be available for the entirety of a month through the dates of April 12th, 2023 to May 15th, 2023. Inside this space will remind some people of a basement show venue. Brick walls, home decor, clamp lights with colored bulbs, bookshelf with posters behind it, and a radio playing music during the open times. During the course of the exhibition, I will continue restocking the library. I have also hired a DJ in the local Twin Cities area who will DJ the exhibition reception event, therefore, during the time of the public interaction with the space, I will be able to better guide them through the process.
