Remembering Aldo Moroni '76

MCAD is saddened to announce the passing of Aldo Moroni ’76.

The MCAD community lost a giant this weekend.

Aldo Moroni-artist, teacher, provocateur, mentor, cultural leader, and MCAD alum (class of ’76) passed away after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. With an infinite amount of creativity, mirth, and charm in equal measure Aldo was generous with his time and keenly interested in supporting emerging artists.

Last spring MCAD awarded him the 2020 Alumni Achievement Award and as our graduation ceremony was put on hold we recorded a conversation with myself and Aldo about this honor and surprised him with a few of his old classmates.

Aldo, you will be deeply missed but leave behind a community graced by your passion and creativity.

2020 MCAD ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: ALDO MORONI ’76

MCAD is proud to recognize Aldo Moroni ’76 with the 2020 Alumni Achievement Award.

A sculptor and urban planner, Moroni grew up in Chicago and came to Minneapolis in the early 1970s to attend MCAD. His career took off when he landed in the 1977 Walker Art Center exhibition Scale and Environment, Ten Sculptors, curated by Walker director Martin Friedman. Moroni is a recipient of numerous Minnesota arts grants, including three McKnight Foundation fellowships.
