Why did you choose the MA in graphic and web design program?

I liked that MCAD offered an online-only program because I can work and pursue other interests without worrying about commuting to classes.

Tell us about a favorite project/assignment you've worked on.

I'm really excited about the final project for my typography class. We got to design a digital publication based on the thesis theme we selected when we applied for the MA program. I really enjoy experimenting with type, which isn't something I ever thought I would like, to be honest, because I always envisioned myself just focusing on coding. For this assignment, we had such open parameters, so I could get really creative and showcase a lot of the graphic design skills I acquired during my time with MCAD, which isn't something I felt very confident about when I first started.

What specific skills did you hone while in the program?

I learned an enormous amount about motion graphics and typography. Together, with my previous coursework in web design and development at MCAD, these more graphic design-oriented skills provided me with a solid foundation to create interesting/innovative/experimental websites and digital experiences.

What. was the online experience like?

It was really a perfect fit for me, especially since I don't live in Minnesota, or the United States, for that matter. While traveling, I could easily access course material and turn in assignments, and I never had to worry about showing up to class late!

Name your one biggest takeaway from MCAD?

Inspiration. I find that even when I'm not working on projects for class, I'm constantly thinking about new ways to digitally demonstrate and illustrate concepts. I love seeing what other people come up with in class.

Any advice for others thinking about this program?

Do it! If you have a passion for design, graphic or web or both, this is the right program for you. It's a lot of work, but definitely worth it.
