Describe the work you submitted for merits.

For merits I wanted to display a variety of interests when it comes to art making. This includes pieces rooted in folklore—such as fairy houses left in the woods of my home, my interest in animals and creatures, and an overall respect and admiration for the course that life takes us through, unsightly or no. This especially means the process of decay.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I actually came to MCAD hoping to major in 3D animation, knowing they had a good animation program. When I came to MCAD, that's when I rediscovered my love for physically making in 3D Foundations class and I decided to cultivate that interest instead.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

For senior year I want to fully put to use the things that I've been practicing and learning to bring them full circle into my pieces, this includes larger scale installations. Beyond MCAD? At some point it's my dream to start my own sculpture park and residency, equipped with a tool shop and making spaces, but also small enough to allow the needed privacy for full exploration.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

The community is everything. At MCAD, I've met some of the coolest, most talented people ever that are equal parts inspiring and uplifting to be around.

What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf?

Whoever left that giant tote of fabric a couple years ago, you are a godsend! I've been using that fabric for a large number of things while making, and only now am I starting to get to the bottom of it.

What inspires you?

Definitely nature. Part of my upbringing was spent on a farm, where I did nothing but observe it. Most of my pieces include some sort of animal and creature and oftentimes, I like to include dried plants, especially moss, in my materials.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

My most favorite piece right now has to be my bronze rabbit, ruminate. A sculpted image of a decaying rabbit is cast in bronze, and then I constructed the innards out of paper fiber and dried flowers. This piece is about decay, and I think highlights the contrast between organic decay and inorganic remains.

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

The netflix series Watership Down! A remake of the old movie, a really great mini series.

What is your favorite color?

Mine is midnight blue.
