In a couple sentences, describe what you do for work and how you feel about it.

I’m a freelance illustrator living and working in New York City. I’ve worked with a wide variety of clients including Adidas, Facebook, Oculus, Comedy Central, Vice, and many others.

How did you get your job?

I began doing freelance illustration projects while I was a junior at MCAD, and over time it’s grown to be my sole source of income. I’ve always tried to do work that is true to myself, and I think that really helps you stand out a lot.

What was your major and how did you choose it? Was it the right choice?

I majored in illustration because I’ve always wanted to draw for a living. It was definitely the right choice for me.

Tell us about your internships.

I’ve done several internships at this point and through them I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot in an actual workspace. I interned at MCAD DesignWorks when I was still a student, then NEIGHBOR in Minneapolis doing animation after I graduated, then at Quirky, which is a tech startup I interned with once I moved to New York.

Best thing you ever got/saw on the free shelf?

A ton of spray paint and some old letterpressed books.

Name your one biggest takeaway from MCAD?

The experience and knowledge about art making I gained from my time as a student is invaluable.

What inspires you/your work?

Seeing and observing is probably the most driving force.

What advice do you have for current MCAD students?

Work really hard learning a bunch of different things and make the projects work for you, don’t judge what you’re doing against other people.

How do you network yourself and your art?

Put yourself out there—hang out with other people that make stuff you like and share with each other.

Current obsession?

Drawing with sharpies.
