Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted various illustration pieces that I've completed over the last year or so for classes at MCAD. I included a little bit of everything—an editorial piece, a fairytale illustration, an anthology spread, and an illustrated map (among others!) Most pieces were done digitally.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I really wanted to pursue a career in art, but none of the colleges near me really offered what I was looking for. After some light digging on the internet, I found MCAD and I was SO excited to see how many art majors they offered! I almost immediately knew that MCAD was my best option for an artistic career, and I began the application process shortly after.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I'm very excited to do my senior project, as well as take a couple of classes outside my major to hopefully expose me to new, exciting ways to do illustration. I'm hoping to find an internship after I graduate as well.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

Before MCAD, I knew maybe one or two individuals who enjoyed making art and wanted to turn it into a profession. It has been really amazing to be surrounded by so many artistic individuals that share a similar passion. I've learned so much from my professors and my peers as well!

What inspires you?

I think being able to see personal growth and progress with my work has been really motivating. Content-wise, I am largely inspired by my friends and family, animals, and nature.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

One of my favorite pieces is an illustration I made for Tools of the Trade last semester. It was the first super-detailed, traditional illustration that I'd made in a really long time and I was really proud of it. It accompanies the Red Riding Hood story in Grimms' Fairy Tales.
