Creating illustrations for books. How did you get your job? I had an illustration agent. What inspires you/your work? Colorful, imaginative, strong expressive patterns and art. Where did you earn your undergraduate degree and what was it in? From the Communication University of China, I was an animation major. How did you hear about MCAD? When looking for info online. Why did you choose MCAD for your MFA? I like the mentorship program and the freedom to choose whatever undergrad courses I like. Who was your mentor and what was your relationship like? James O'Brien and Schell Hicle. Describe the work that you make. I made a short stop-motion animation during the first three semesters of my study, and then a picture book for the last semester. Best thing you ever found on the free shelf? Half of my stop-motion materials. Favorite MCAD faculty? Frenchy Lunning What did you enjoy most about your MFA experience? There was enough freedom to explore. I have taken courses on paper making, photography, and print making. The courses are not limited to your own major. How do you network yourself and your art? Mostly through Instagram, and sometimes by my agent. What was your experience living in the Twin Cities? Any hidden treasures? I liked the variety of activities, performances at the Walker Art Center and the five-dollar student tickets! I signed up with Student Affairs to get those. What advice do you have for current MCAD students and/or artists at the beginning of their creative careers? It is easy to get started, I would suggest to save enough money or take a daytime non-art related job while you start your freelancing career. What would you tell students considering pursuing an MFA degree? I think I am gaining a lot by auditing undergrad classes, it is a opportunity to explore different areas and extend your art field led by professionals.
