Image Alumni ’20 Education BFA, Minneapolis College of Art and Design Website shaesartshack.com Current Career Best Buy Teen Tech Center Manager Location Saint Cloud, MN Describe what you do for work and how your experience with it has been.I currently work with underserved teens at the Southside Boys & Girls Club in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center. This facility provides them with access to advanced technology and resources. In my role, I support the youth in exploring and developing their skills in both art and technology. I graduated with a 3D animation degree but quickly uncovered my passion was working with youth. This position allows me to integrate the knowledge I gained at MCAD with my commitment to youth development. How did you get your job? I began my career as a part-time digital artist at the Boys & Girls Club while working towards my goal of becoming a full-time artist. During this period, I launched my own business and sold abstract paintings. After a year and a half, the role evolved following a grant we received from Best Buy. I then transitioned into a full-time position while continuing to manage my art business on the side. How long ago did you graduate from MCAD?4–7 yearsWhere are you originally from and how did you hear about MCAD?I grew up in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. I wanted to stay in state and I found that MCAD was the perfect college to accomplish my dreams while still being close to home. What was your major and how did you choose it?3D animation: I wanted to combine my interests together. One day I sat down and wrote each thing I was most passionate about ( Art, Children, Technology, Cartoons, etc.) I found that 3D animation was a perfect combination. Who was your favorite faculty member and why?Lynda Monick-Isenberg because she helped me find my true passion and did so without judgment or concern for my future. Describe your internship(s).I never had an internship. I chose to do a collaborative animation course instead. Best thing you ever found on the free shelf?Fully functional microwave. Lasted me until two years out of college. Did MCAD prepare you for life after graduation? In what way?The first two years following graduation were certainly the most challenging. I believe that no institution or individual could have adequately prepared me for that experience. Success is not achieved overnight, despite the common perception that it is. It is important to take the necessary time to assess and realign one's goals. As I progress in my career, I increasingly recognize how my experience at MCAD has contributed to my success. Your biggest takeaway from MCAD?MCAD provides you with the resources and information necessary for success. The decision to utilize these tools is ultimately yours. What inspires you/your work?I am continuously inspired by the teens that I currently work with. How do you network yourself and your art?I participate in the MCAD Art Sale every year. I also hang my art in local businesses to gain more exposure. What was your experience living in the Twin Cities? Any hidden treasures? The food there was amazing! Christos is by far a must-try restaurant if you like Greek food.
