The Liberal Arts Department of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design seeks to support the larger mission of the school by offering students an integrated curriculum that deepens their understanding of artistic and visual traditions and cultivates creativity in a wide range of fields. The Liberal Arts Department introduces students to the historical, social, cultural, and creative contexts in which contemporary art and design fields exist, trains students to articulate and transmit their ideas to multiple audiences, and ultimately supports developing artists and designers by providing them with skills and knowledge that will enable them to make insightful critiques of consequence in their lives and practices. LA Disciplinary Outcomes Deepen student understanding of artistic and visual traditions. Expand student knowledge of the political, cultural, historical, and scientific contexts in which art is made and artists work. Training students to be clear and articulate critical thinkers and communicators.
