Since 2005, North Carolina native and MFA candidate Preston Drum has been painting on old photographs, junk mail, and scraps of paper. These works, referred to as POSTCARD paintings, primarily because of their size and shape, have assumed many forms including portraiture, landscape, and still life.

Through this image-making process Preston has wrestled with a wide range of issues, from the lack of content on nightly television to the implications of hydraulic fracturing on the environment.

MAKER MEETS MADE is an in-depth exploration of Preston’s decade-long commitment to the POSTCARD painting format. Close to 1,000 of his POSTCARD paintings will be on display alongside a re-creation of his studio. A short performance by the artist himself will take place at 7:00 p.m. during the reception.
