Moving beyond one’s borders makes opportunities possible, both large and small. This exhibition calls attention to the venturesome students who come to MCAD from abroad, often many thousands of miles away from traditional networks of family and friends. It also acknowledges the MCAD students who leave the familiarity of our college campus to study at other international or U.S.-based art programs. The work of sixteen of the more than forty students invited to participate in this show is highlighted here. The title for the show might immediately bring to mind the Disneyland amusement ride "It's a Small World.” The lyrics and tune were written by the Sherman Brothers who conceived of it as a song of peace in the wake of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Walt Disney commissioned the song to go along with a ride (first called "Children of the World") that premiered at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
