Fri, Aug 18, 2017, 5 pm –Sun, Sep 17, 2017, 5 pm Concourse Gallery Gallery Exhibition Image Sam Dirck In conjunction with the Main Gallery exhibition Armin Hofmann: Farbe/Color, the show Tone Poems of Color highlights how students at MCAD are exploring similar issues related to color but doing so with new tools and in a twenty-first century context. The pedagogical exercise conceived of by Erik Brandt, chair of the Design Department at MCAD, requires students in the college’s 2D Foundations class to analyze pages from the New York Times. The students draw grids and invent color schemas in both digital and analog forms with a focus on exploring and reconciling issues of projected and reflected light. Examples of the initial drawings, painted grids, and related video work from a host of students over the past several years will be on view. Gallery visitors will also have the opportunity to create their own personalized color grids.
