Tue, Jan 21, 2020, 6 pm –Sun, Feb 2, 2020, 5 pm Gallery 148 Gallery Exhibition Image The Body Embodied bridges the gap between graduate students and the wider MCAD population. The exhibition is an introduction by the first-year master of fine arts (MFA) class to create a meaningful dialogue between the program and the rest of the student body. Due primarily to the physical separation between the programs, MCAD MFA students are an oft unknown branch of the school. As the unified first-year graduate class, an exhibition within the main campus will fill the fracture between the programs and deepen the larger cultural interchange within the shared institutional community. Participating artists will exhibit a variety of works—paintings, sculptures, installations, illustrations, and printworks—all exploring abstract notions of the body. The space will be further activated during the opening by a dynamic performance by Alejandro Zhang. A dialogue between MFA students and the undergraduate student body will be further facilitated by an artist talk, in which participating artists will discuss their works, processes, and experiences as guest lecturers in undergraduate classes. The work is exploratory and not restricted by the boundaries of medium or material. MFA students maintain a distinctly interdisciplinary voice, using a wide range of approaches to ruminate on what it means to be embodied within our societies.
