Intersections: Women, Leadership, and the Power of Collaboration

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design is pleased to present Intersections, an exhibition that brings together the collaborative projects of fourteen teams of artists composed of women art department chairs from the greater Twin Cities area and their students and alumni.

Over the span of many months, fourteen women who are current or recent studio art department chairs engaged students and alumni in projects that challenged traditional hierarchies and set studio practices. The resulting collaborations joined authorship, shifted points of view, converged cultures, encouraged exchanges across time and space, and opened up conversations about art and process.

The collaborators represent eleven different colleges and universities, including Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Carleton College, College of St. Benedict/St. John's University, College of Visual Arts, Concordia University, Gustavus Adolphus College, Macalester College, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, St. Catherine University, St. Olaf College, and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Exhibition Catalog

A catalog on CD accompanies the exhibition. It highlights the collaborative projects and includes an introduction by Karen Wirth (interim vice president of academic affairs at MCAD) and an essay by Patricia Briggs (art critic and gallery director and curator at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside).

Intersections is made possible through the generous support of the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation and Larkin Hoffman, with additional funding from Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Carleton College, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and St. Olaf College.
