Artist Talk + Performance + Opening Reception

Artist talk by Visiting Faculty Ziba Rajabi, in gallery performance by Alondra Garza ’21, MFA, in conjunction with the 2022 MCAD Faculty Biennial Exhibition, and Opening Reception at the MCAD Gallery 148 for Hits of Positivity: Wild Life Rescue featuring work from the Marigolds of Justice, an art collective comprised of MFA candidates Abe Shriner, Rosario Parker Gordon, and Emmy E. Smith.

Artist Talk with Ziba Rajabi: 6:00–7:00 p.m., Auditorium 150

Ziba Rajabi is an interdisciplinary artist whose work revolves primarily around painting, drawing, and fiber-based installation. She will talk about her artistic practice and how spaces and places have influenced her work. Rajabi’s work is on view in the Main Gallery of the 2022 Faculty Biennial exhibition.

This lecture is part of the MCAD MFA Program for our Fall 2023 professional practices series of lectures and panels, which are all online, free, and open to all.

Ziba Rajabi (she/her) is our new visiting faculty member in the MFA program. Join us as we learn more about her creative practice. There will be question and answer time at the end.

Gallery Performance with Alondra Garza ’21, MFA: 7:40 p.m., Concourse Gallery

Connecting to her indigenous roots, artist Alondra Garza will perform with a handmade mask now on view in the 2022 Faculty Biennial exhibition. Connected to certain Mexican festivities, Garza's performance represents the deep-rooted and innate migration path of indigenous Americans.

Hits of Positivity: Wild Life Rescue Opening Reception, 7:00–10:00 p.m., Gallery 148

The Marigolds of Justice is an artist collective comprised of Abe Shriner, Emmy Smith and Rosario Parker Gordon. In their latest project, Hits of Positivity: Wild Life Rescue, life-sized facsimiles and living things oscillate between appearing and being in an immersive gallery exhibition. Paintings and text hesitate to expound on the theme, but maybe the gender reveal cake will show us what we're made of. Elsewhere, worms pursue their activities in the dark under the radiations of The Virgin Mary's reign and the Grass Phone waits, a question receiver, an oracle whose wildness is kept safe in the continent of an astroturf sleeve.

Light refreshments will be provided.
