Faculty Forum: Jacob Yeates Reading “Attention Children”

Faculty member Jacob Yeates (they/he) will be reading excerpts from their recently completed narrative project, Attention Children. Created over the last year with the support of a 2023 Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Next Step Fund Grant, Attention Children is an illustrated anthology of prose poetry, the written content of which was created entirely from sentence-by-sentence rearrangements of political press conference transcripts, ordnance warnings, safety leaflets, and U.S. and Israeli military/police communiques ranging from 1945 to the present day. Accompanied by a series of original illustrations, Yeates’s narrative reflects on the nature of occupation, the mutability of language, and manifestations of State-sanctioned violence. An opportunity for Q/A will follow the reading.
