Fri, Sep 6, 2024, 6 –8 pm Main and Concourse Galleries Gallery Exhibition Event Image Exhibition: August 26–November 2, 2024 Reception: Friday, September 6, 6:00–8:00 p.m. Throughout the fall, the gallery will spotlight the art and research undertaken by both full- and part-time faculty in the 2024 MCAD Faculty Biennial. Some fifty faculty members in the college’s Creative Entrepreneurship, Design, Fine Arts, Media Arts, and Liberal Arts Departments will be participating in an exhibition in the Main and Concourse Galleries. Participating faculty will also be presenting papers, film screenings, performances, and readings as part of a Faculty Forum Series in Auditorium 140. The wide variety of media and formats will showcase the breadth of the faculty’s expertise and offer audience members multiple in-person and remote engagement opportunities. Forum Presentation Counter-Reformation: Experimental and Improvised Music by Abe Shriner Main Gallery September 6, 7:00-7:40 p.m.Influenced by Baroque tonality, Terry Riley’s organ drones, and the free improvisation of musicians like Derek Bailey and Fred Frith, Shriner’s solo performances combine samples with live instrumentation to create a variety of sonic textures and landscapes. This work is an extension of his painting, transferring the language of abstraction to the domain of live sound through idiomatic and non-idiomatic musical expression.
