Image Faculty Alumni ’16 Title Adjunct Faculty Education BA, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Current Career Environmental Artist and Designer Location Michigan Julie Reneé Benda is a writer, multi-media artist and comedian on paper. Published cartoonist and award-winning sculptor, her art resides at the intersection of humor, environmental discourse and storytelling. Benda has been featured in Make MN Magazine, MN Original, Hyperallergic, and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency. She is the recipient of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council Next Step Grant, Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant, the Jerome/MCBA Mentorship, and is currently the Stephen L. Barstow Artist-in-Residence at Central Michigan University. A born and raised Yooper, her formative years were largely spent collecting firewood and attempting to gain a suitable audience of none amongst a lot of maples and pines.
