Faculty Alumni ’11 Title Adjunct Faculty Education BFA, Minneapolis College of Art and Design Social Media LinkedIn Current Career Senior Engineering Manager, Shipt Location Minneapolis, MN Describe what you do for work and how your experience with it has been. I lead a team of software engineers and we work on the mobile app that Shipt members use to order their products to be delivered. Where are you originally from and how did you hear about MCAD? I was born in Ghana. I moved to the Twin Cities when my family immigrated to America, and I heard about MCAD through high school. What was your major and how did you choose it? Web and Multimedia Environments. I originally was going to be in illustration, however, I saw an interactive installation that really inspired me to learn how the technology worked and that was it for me! Who was your favorite faculty member and why? Piotr Szyhalski. He built the installation I saw that inspired me! I asked him to show it to me after class. Describe your internship(s). I worked in DesignWorks, building websites. I also interned at Ham in the Fridge, building games and installations. Did MCAD prepare you for life after graduation? In what way? MCAD prepared me by helping me realize that for as much as I learned, I had barely scratched the surface upon graduating. The diploma placeholder that was given to me when I walked had a quote on it: "There will come a time when you believe everything is finished; that will be the beginning." Your biggest takeaway from MCAD? Collaborate. You can't do everything by yourself. What inspires you/your work? I genuinely love what I do even when it is full of problems to work through. What was your experience living in the Twin Cities? Any hidden treasures? Franky's in northeast Minneapolis. One of the best diner burgers you will find, and you will drive by it without knowing.
