Jay Gould (he/him/his) is an artist and educator that conceptually integrates modern and historic photographic processes into tactile works that contemplate the persistent passage of time, ponder provocative curiosities, paradoxes and the hidden world beyond our given senses. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Walters Museum of Art in Baltimore, the McGlothlin Center for the Arts in Virginia, PhoPa Gallery in Maine and the Griffin Museum of Photography in Massachusetts. His work has also been featured in group exhibitions at the Fridman Gallery in New York, the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art,the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Wisconsin, and the Noorderlicht Festival in the Netherlands. Gould regularly collaborates with science researchers as part of his practice, having completed work with astronomers, cancer researchers, nanotech engineers and served as the inaugural Artist in Residence at the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Other recent residencies include the Penland School of Craft and the Elsewhere Museum in North Carolina. Gould received his BFA in Art from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and earned an MFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has taught at the Maine Media Workshops, Louisiana Tech University and served as Chair of the Photography and Film + Video Departments at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Gould joined the MInneapolis College of Art and Design in 2024 as the Chair of Foundation Studies, where he is thrilled to help advance the future of this vibrant community of creative leaders.
