Kjel Johnson, PhD, has been an educator since 1998, designing and instructing courses in film, media, and cultural studies at the University of Minnesota, Carleton College, St. Cloud State University, and at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He also spent many years as a writing consultant and was the author of the University of Minnesota Student Writing Guide (2004).

Johnson's primary research interests include violence, society, and representation; media and politics; film history, theory, and criticism; and contemporary trends in critical theory and cultural analysis. 

He is also President of White Bear Montessori School's Board of Trustees, an advocate for gifted youth, a guitarist, and a dad.
