Painting of a spiraling tree
Spiral Grove by Clara Dart

Middleville, Michigan

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted an essay and a handful of creative writing exercises I made earlier in my college career.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

Honestly, to have an excuse to get out of my tiny rural hometown and move to a city. The universities closest to my hometown were quite behind technologically and didn't have the resources or curriculum that MCAD had (the first university I applied to wanted me to put my portfolio on a CD and mail it to them...).

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

For now, I'd like to stay in the Twin Cities, as I really love it here, but I can see myself moving to bigger cities in the future to work for studios or other larger companies.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

I love the opportunities faculty members give students to speak to professionals and establish connections with people in the industry they'd like to work in.

What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf?

A bottle of (unopened) Lush body wash!

What inspires you?

I own a lot of videogames, and the art direction of my favorite titles is a level I aspire to reach someday! I want my art to eventually show up in a video game art book.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

I've been working on a series of tarot cards, currently working through the Queen of each suit. I really enjoy the style I'm using for them and want to incorporate it in other illustrations.

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

I finally got a Playstation 4 of my own after months of saving and I am fumbling my way through Bloodborne
