Painting of many figures surrounding a table
Dungeon Master by Emma Konrad

CLASS OF 1978 MERIT $2,000
Hopkins, Minnesota

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted a range of both conceptual and academic work. Recently, I've started creating digital collages of figures from various images dealing with a central theme and then translating those collages into oil paintings. These collages focus only on the figures, leaving the idea of an environment resting only on visual queues as given by the figures. The academic pieces represent practices that support my conceptual work

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

The resources and facilities.

I am graduating in December and will apply for a grad program to work towards my M.ED. in visual arts. Eventually, I hope to pursue an MFA in painting.

What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf?

I love collecting various artists' books from the free shelf. I reference them frequently and got most of them from the free shelf!

Humor, situations of performativity, color, ethics, reading, nature, photo culture, everything?

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?
