Describe the work you submitted for merits.

My work for merits is heavily inspired by manga and focuses on themes about relationships or religion.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I wanted to experience snow and MCAD has a good comic program.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I want to work on longer works and work on my storytelling skills. Beyond MCAD, I'd like to start working on a graphic novel I've had in mind.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

I enjoy seeing other students' work, it inspires me to work more.

What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf?

A large pile of unused bristol paper.

What inspires you?

Shoujo manga from the 70s and 80s, mostly from Riyoko Ikeda and Moto Hagio.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

Watching was my favorite piece on display for merits. It was a watercolor comic that involved the relationship between two gods and a higher power watching over them.

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

I've been re-watching the Manben documentary by Naoki Urasawa, where he interviews famous manga artists and documents their process. It's very satisfying to watch them work.
