Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted eight of my 2D animations and two files of character design work. My main goal as an artist is to simultaneously uplift and entertain those who feel despondent. Regardless of age or background, I constantly aim to create a place of solace within my visual narratives. My work is often bizarre and whimsical, but it also carries a familiar and humorous charm.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

During my college search, I found that MCAD was a place where I would be able to study traditional/digital illustration and animation. This first time I visited the campus the temperature was below freezing, but I still enjoyed the building and surrounding location.

What's next for your practice? Anything you're really excited to make?

I am excited to make more animated short films. I have only recently switched my major from illustration to animation.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

I actually love being stressed out with a lot of work here because all of my assignments are activating the creative and imaginative part of my brain. I love to look back and see the body of work I am generating.

What inspires you?

When I was little, I used to read animal encyclopedias for fun. I greatly enjoy taking the natural world and reimagining it with oddity and absurdity.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

I really like my most recent animation, The Eternal Battle. I started this project outside of class during winter break. It is a short animated loop in which an orange creature holding a sword continuously tries to attack a long-necked creature. However, the long-necked creature regenerates its neck and gives the orange one a quick lick in the eye with each cycle. The animation loop is digitally hand-drawn, but I also integrate camera movement through Premiere. I also make all my own soundtracks and sound effects for my animations. This piece has some of my favorite backing music that I have produced so far.
