July 05, 2023 Image She/Her Sophomore, Illustration Foundation Studies Merit Scholarship Urbandale, Iowa Describe the work you submitted for merits. The work I submitted for the merits showcases the evolution of my art throughout the school year, along with my artistic voice. My proudest pieces contain content I am passionate about, such as magic and whimsy. Other works demonstrate the trial and error I overcame and the new media I explored as a first-year student. Lastly, each piece was chosen not only because of its aesthetics but because they are the ones I enjoyed making the most. Why did you decide to come to MCAD? I decided to come to MCAD to take the chance of multiple opportunities: the opportunity to learn, to be independent, to flourish in a new environment, and to meet lifelong friends along the way. What's next for your practice? Anything you're really excited to make? My practice moving forward involves exploring new approaches and having fun with the process. For example, I love creating children’s illustrations, but I’d like to take things a step further by building a narrative. As a result, I’m excited to enhance my creative writing skills in order to integrate them into my illustrations. Explore more about Cindy To
