I submitted multiple comics I made throughout my sophomore year here at MCAD, including my award winning comic Almost 20. Why did you decide to come to MCAD? I was able to talk to an alum from the comic art major and the way she spoke about her experience made me think that MCAD would be the perfect place for me! What's next for your practice? Anything you're really excited to make? I’m currently working on an anthology of autobiographical comics titled Lonely Rabbit and I plan to work on it a lot more in the upcoming months. Favorite thing about college life (so far)? My comics classes and all the friends I’ve made. What inspires you? My life! I love to make art about real experiences, both as a way to cope and as a way to create representation for others. Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it! My favorite piece is an illustration I made in summer 2022 titled Leftover. It is a self portrait of me lying in bed, bleeding from a wound in my chest. It was made to represent my struggles with loneliness and abandonment. Anything you're obsessed with at the moment? I’ve recently reentered my Steven Universe phase, so I’m getting obsessed with the soundtrack again. It’s been on repeat for days now! Explore more about Josey
