2023 Merit Scholarship Recipient: Nico Enstrom

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

For my merit exhibition, I created a multimedia installation that explored many parts of my practice. There were elements of collage, soft sculpture, printmaking, and a video piece. The exhibition really celebrated my growth and involvement with new mediums over the last year. 

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I wanted to be a part of a community where I could be my truest self and explore creation without boundaries. 

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I’m planning on moving out of the Midwest for a bit, I’m ready for a change of scenery. I’m thinking about going to grad school at some point but I want a period of rest before that big leap. 

What inspires you? 

Psychology, experiences and the need for self exploration in my practice constantly push me forward right now.

Creating my own textures!
