The work I submitted included projects in publication design, environmental design, web development, and web design, as well as the beginning stages of an app design I will be revisiting for my capstone. What made you choose to come to MCAD for your MA? I chose the MAGWD program because of the harmonious blend it offered of both graphic and web design coursework. I wanted to choose a program that could help me become a well rounded professional in the design world, and MCAD stood out from the other schools I was researching in that regard. Additionally, I was drawn to MCAD because the schedule and online nature of the MAGWD program fits well with my life as someone who works a full time 9-5 job but is interested in learning and growing as a designer. Favorite thing about the program (so far)? It's exciting to see how what I've learned in previous classes is woven into the work moving forward as I progress through the program. The MAGWD program does an excellent job of helping students build the skills they need to succeed at what comes next, providing an environment that helps them discover and refine their artistic identity along the way. What is the MCAD online learning experience like? I love the supportive, encouraging learning community at MCAD. Between the synchronous class meetings and the discussions or critiques, I have been able to build some great connections with professors and fellow students. The online format is a fantastic match for my current lifestyle, as it allows me to balance work and school in a way that might not be possible if I needed to worry about commuting to class after work. What inspires you? I find myself inspired anytime I'm able to connect with or see the work of other creative individuals who are excited or joyful about what they are making. That energy is contagious in the best way! Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it! One of my favorite projects I've created in the MAGWD program so far was environmental design for a fictional book bar and cafe. This was created for Typography. It was so much fun to find the overall cozy aesthetic and grow that into designs for the logo, indoor and outdoor signage, and assets. By the time I was finished, I wanted to hop through my mock ups and order a latte myself! Anything you're obsessed with at the moment? I took a motion illustration class this semester through MCAD and I am currently deep in a motion illustration rabbit hole. I learned a lot in the class, and it opened my eyes to how much more there is to explore! Explore more about Emily Morrison Weeks
