The work I submitted for merits focuses on innovating pet transportation and to be a catalyst for change in the pet industry. Inspired by personal experiences with my French bulldog, Piper, I am developing a 'sustainable and modular pet transportation system' to address the shortcomings of traditional pet strollers. By prioritizing durability and sustainability, my aim is to enhance the lives of pets and their owners while minimizing waste in the pet product ecosystem. What made you choose to come to MCAD for your MA? I chose MCAD for my MA because of its renowned reputation for fostering creativity and innovation. With a strong commitment to integrating sustainability into its curriculum and an interdisciplinary approach. They also provide an ideal environment for me to develop innovative solutions to real-world sustainability challenges. Favorite thing about the program (so far)? Discovering new and creative ways of thinking and looking at every problems full system to find not only solutions but ways to enhance the entire system. What is the MCAD online learning experience like? It has been really amazing and flexible. Being in a different timezone (West Coast of Australia) it can be challenging sometime to attend things live, but the team has been amazing to include me or provide recording where it is not possible. What inspires you? My connection with nature and dedication to driving positive change through various mediums like artwork, podcasting, and public speaking serve as your constant sources of inspiration. Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it! "The Last Straw Project" holds a special place in my heart as it symbolizes both creativity and environmental consciousness. Crafted from a repurposed football and 60,000 single-use plastic straws, the piece embodies the essence of sustainability and the power of collective action. Exhibited first at a bustling international airport and then at a flagship Costa Coffee store in Dubai, it served as a poignant reminder for all to take greater care of our planet. Through this artwork, I aimed to spark conversations about the environmental impact of single-use plastics and encourage individuals to make conscious choices, even as seemingly small as skipping a straw, to protect our precious ecosystems and wildlife. Anything you're obsessed with at the moment? Our French Bulldog, Piper. Lastly, do you have a favorite question we didn't ask? Tell us and answer it! One thing I cannot live without is chocolate. I believe the world would be a lot less interesting without it. After discovering everything hidden in the chocolate industry, I've endeavored to educate myself more about it. Now, when I indulge in chocolate, I ensure it's from companies that provide ethical and sustainable options. This ensures that future generations can still enjoy beautiful and delicious chocolate.
