April 27, 2024 Image Rebeckah Regennitter She/her Sophomore, Undecided Foundation Studies Merit Scholarship Marion, Iowa Describe the work you submitted for merits. I submitted various works from photography, sculptures, drawings, and pieces from my 2D class. Why did you decide to come to MCAD? I decided to try MCAD because I am passionate about art, and Iowa has no art collages. Overall, I chose it because it gave me the opportunity to pursue art. What's next for your practice? Anything you're really excited to make? Throughout my freshman year at MCAD, I have discovered that I love sculpture and painting, so I plan to expand my knowledge in those areas. Favorite thing about college life (so far)? I love the library. Its staff is accommodating, and it is a nice, quiet place to study. Also, being so close to the Mia is great! It is amazing having such close and readily available access to a wide collection of art. What inspires you? I am inspired a lot by my family and where I grew up in small town Iowa. I find I keep having my project relate back to home and what I love. In particular, I am very drawn to birds and nature. Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it! So far, my favorite piece I have made is a 3-foot-tall metal wind chime. The chimes consist of 50 metal fish that cascade downwards in a spiral from the top, which depicts a continual wave motif. Overall, this project is a labor of love because it took over 30 hours to complete and tested my patience, as I initially had no idea what I was doing. Anything you're obsessed with at the moment? I am currently obsessed with two things: our close access to Eat Street and the 3D shop. Explore more about Rebeckah Regennitter
