I originally started school elsewhere as a photo journalism student but struggled to find my voice. I took some time off and was introduced to MCAD's photo program and have not looked back since.Describe the work you submitted for merits. The work featured for the Merit Scholarship is diaristic, focusing on memories and lost thoughts that welcomes the viewer to interact both physically and emotionally with the work. I work with alternative processes, archival imagery collaged with my own portraiture and personal journal. Bryn Estlund, Clover 1 Bryn Estlund, Clover 2 Why did you decide to come to MCAD?Originally, I went to school for photojournalism, I felt as if it was the closest I could get to art making. I struggled to find my voice and make work that I wanted to make. I took a step back from school and discovered I was interested in fine art photography. I would build sets in my tiny apartment or take my friends to forests in the middle of nowhere to photograph them. Once learning about Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I took a large leap into the unknown, wanting to be an artist but not knowing what to expect. My time at MCAD has provided me with the knowledge and opportunity to grow. I am forever thankful for my time here. Describe it!I have been collecting stereoscope cards for years but never imagined using them in a project. I love collage and layering - being able to see it through a stereoscope working further layers the image in a way I have not done before. Placing my friends and women in my life in these historical cards/places really excited me and in a way felt like making a little space for them in history.
