A lot of it appeals to a younger audience, as I've recently started making more middle-grade/YA work. Otherwise, I had two pieces that were autobiographical, one detailing my journey learning Spanish as a way to be close to my grandfather, and the other about my experiences playing Lacrosse. Most of the work has themes of truth and performance, themes that I am very interested in exploring further as well. Eloise Rios, Middie Eloise Rios, Cube Comic Zoo Why did you decide to come to MCAD?I attended the PCSS comic program over the summer of 2021 and it was such a great representation of the school! I had my first taste of drawing and comics classes and I fell in love. The scholarships I got also didn't hurt. What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?Senior year I plan to dedicate to my senior project and tabling at more zine fests and comic conventions! Beyond, I would love to create middle grade graphic novels and do freelance work!Favorite thing about college life (so far)?I love being so close to all my friends. Even if they don't live on campus or in Whittier, they come to campus for class and to work in studios! Definitely going to miss the proximity once we graduate. Eloise Rios, Beach Baby Eloise Rios, HTKaGriso What inspires you?I'm totally inspired by all my friends and their amazing art, but I also get a lot of inspiration from the Art Nouveau movement. Music is also a big inspiration for me!Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!I think my favorite piece I've ever made is my How to Kiss a Girl zine. I made it for my print in public class, and due to the inserts inside it almost functions as more of an artists book. When I was making it I was totally nervous because it feels kind of cheesy, but so many people resonated and loved it. Eloise Rios, Intenta Eloise Rios, Magic Ballet Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?I am totally obsessed with Fleetwood Mac's song Sisters of The Moon! What's the best thing you've found on the Free Shelf? The best thing I've found on the free shelf has to be a box full of book-making supplies. It had everything! A bone folder, thread, needles, awls, pretty papers!Lastly, do you have a favorite question we didn't ask? Tell us and answer it!You should ask our favorite books, and mine is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
