MCAD hosted a visiting artists lecture by interdisciplinary artist Edgar Arceneax.

The lecture held on January 24 was centered around Arceneax’s observations of techniques he’d developed in three of his projects spanning from 1999 to the present day. He outlined the tools he’d developed to represent the unseen and portray various subjects and themes without outright representation.

Drawings of Removal (1999—present) is an installation and drawing project composed of multiple large pages layered on top of each other. The work is based on the premise of unseen locations, the interconnections between them, and how they can become fragmented by memory.

Skinning the mirror (2022) came from experimentation with adding paint to the back of a mirror, and skinning them, which created temporarily malleable reflective paintings. These warped paintings turn the subject back to the viewer, making them the subject of the art.

Boney Manilli (2025) is a play loosely based on the group Milli Vanilli and Arceneax’s own experiences writing the script. Arceneax held a raffle at the lecture, giving away five free tickets to the January 24 performance of the show.
