MCAD Alumni Casey Opstad ’11, alongside around a dozen other artists recently unveiled their monumental 140-foot-long mural for the new Altru Hosptial in Grand Forks, North Dakota on January 9. This commissioned work based on Highway 2 was added as a permanent fixture to the Art of Wellness collection for the Altru Health System. Opstad enlisted the help of numerous people including David Rathman ’82 who he met during his time at MCAD’s Graduate program, and admired for his "thoughtful and honest approach."Opstad’s segment of the mural Seasons takes the viewer through Highway 2 as the scenery changes over time from sunrise to sunset. He told the Grand Forks Herald that as a Grand Forks native “now, many years later, I am on this road again, this time with my sister Trina to clean out Pop’s assisted-living condo in Minot. Though the seasons change and years go by, the beauty of this place remains.”Learn MoreGrandForks Native Casey Opstad Returns to Create Artwork(grandforksherald.com — January 8, 2025) Explore more about Casey Opstad David Rathman
